The Apollo 11 mission was a major victory for the US over Russia in the race to conquer space.
Speaking at the John H Glenn Lecture for 40th Anniversary of Apollo 11, the first man on the Moon, Neil Armstrong, said the lunar landing helped to create ''co-operation between former adversaries'' and hastened the end of the space race.
