Public interest in the Apollo 11 Moon landing around the world meant media providers descended on Florida in their thousands.
Of the 4,000 journalists covering the story, around 3,000 were domestic - but the remaining 1,000 included reporters from Japan, Italy, Sri Lanka, Iran, Somalia and Germany.
The BBC's Ron Onions reported from the centre of the "news city" ahead of the landing in July 1969.
