The second Lunar Rover was given a thorough test-drive during Apollo 16's moon landing, reaching a speed of 11mph (18kph).
Commander John Young and Lunar Module Pilot Charlie Duke spent three days exploring the Descartes highland region.
The area was once thought to have been formed by volcanic activity, but their samples showed the landscape was the result of meteorite impacts.
