Polar trio due to set off

A British expedition to assess the future of the Arctic ice-cap has set off from northern Canada.

The explorer Pen Hadow and two companions will trek over six hundred miles to the North Pole carrying out the most detailed measurements of the ice so far.

David Shukman reports.
