The first comprehensive inventory of the sea and land animals that live in a polar region has been completed by a team from the British Antarctic Survey and Hamburg University.
The waters around the South Orkney Islands were especially rich - more than 1,000 species were found, including sea urchins, worms, crustaceans and molluscs.
