Magnetic field technology will in the future protect astronauts on their journey to the planets, researchers claim.
The Rutherford Appleton Laboratory, the Universities of York and Strathclyde, and the IST Lisbon have demonstrated a way to protect spaceships from the harmful effects of solar radiation by creating a safe magnetic "hole" inside a stream of fast-moving charged particles.
