The Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter is nearing a critical phase as it reaches the Red Planet.

MARS RECONNAISSANCE ORIBITER (MRO)

1) Mars orbit insertion follows five month, 310 million mile journey

2) Six month, 500 orbit, "aerobraking" phase begins

3) Gradually reducing orbits use Mars' atmosphere to change path

4) Search for ancient seas, atmosphere changes and landing sites
