Woodhey High School Reporters at Science festival

The Big Bang exhibition proved to be a fertile ground for young newshounds in the Manchester area.

Not only did they get to practice their journalistic skills, but they also got to experiment with science and technology.

A group of girls from Woodhey High school in Bury got to test their accuracy through exercise when they took turns with a Nintendo Wii virtual archery board.

School Reporter Billie did an interview with a rocket scientist.

Abi, also from Woodhey did an interview with the patron of the show, Sir Anthony Cleaver.

Jenny Hargreaves, an English teacher from the school said that it was a very hectic day, but great fun.

'Lot of confidence'

The Woodhey students were joined by teams from Sir John Thursby Community College and Rainford High Technology College.

There was variety in the stories the reporters produced, ranging from interviews with exhibitors to research on stories about fatty foods and health and safety.

Jack, 14, got to work with a crew from BBC North West Tonight on making a television report. He said the experience was fantastic.

"It's given me a lot of confidence,'" he said.
