Sport Relief 2008: James Cracknell and David Walliams crossed continents |
Sport Relief, which occurs in March 2010, may seem a long way away, but schools around the UK are already taking part. They may not be running a mile round the playground or swimming the length of the English channel in their local pool just yet, but they are already learning how the money raised between 19 and 21 March will benefit people leading tough lives. Through lesson plans and guides on both the Sport Relief and School Report websites, students are investigating harsh realities, such as sleeping on the streets and avoiding gang violence, and examining what they and others can do to help. Teachers can use resources on the Sport Relief website to help students appreciate their role as a global citizen, and they can use the resources on the School Report site to help them structure a report about the issues they examine. A selection of relevant guides and tips have been gathered together on the right-hand side of this page. School Report editor Helen Shreeve said: "It's great that Sport Relief are encouraging young people to think about the world around them and how people can make a positive difference. We hope teachers and students take the next step to reporting on what they have found out - and later what they are doing to raise money for Sport Relief. School Report resources should help them do that."
