MediaCity handover ceremony

The BBC was handed the keys to the first of its three new buildings at MediaCityUK, in Salford Quays, Europe's biggest media centre - and School Reporters from Oasis Academy in Salford and St Ambrose Barlow RC High School, in Swinton, were there to capture the moment.

On Wednesday 14 October, Molly and I went to the BBC MediaCity site to take a sneak peek at the new buildings the BBC will be moving to.

We went to the "Key Ceremony" when Sir Michael Lyons, from the BBC Trust (the people who make sure the BBC listens to the voice of the public) got the keys to the first new building from the builders, Peel Developments.

The building was amazing with lots of glass and open-space inside. Our teacher, Mr Shepheard said it felt like you were standing in the middle of the Ship Canal when you looked out of the windows.

BBC Sport, 5Live and Children's programmes are all moving there when they finish putting the equipment in.

We went in to the 5Live radio studios. The special glass made it really quiet in there, even though there was a building site outside.

This will hopefully put Salford back on the map and make it a place where people will want to visit, as the building is right by the Quays and will have some great new attractions like a video wall.

It was a really fun day and everybody enjoyed it.
