This year's U.S mid term race is one of the most dramatic in recent history. And one of the most talked about polls is the contest for New York's Governor.

Democrat Andrew Cuomo and his opponent Republican Carl Paladino both showed up to campaign at Manhattan's annual Columbus Day parade.

Following Mr Paladino's comments that he fears children are 'brainwashed' into thinking about homosexuality it was another lively day in New York politics. The BBC's Laura Trevelyan reports from the parade.
