 TomTom 520 music edition |
The box states that the TomTom 520 is ready to go straight out of the box. I decided to put this theory to the test.
There are a few options to select before it gets going, such as language, map colours and voice.
I decided to try 'Jane' as she seemed to be the least annoying on the bunch... I used the postcode entry method of selecting my destination and set off.
Unfortunately the first command I received was to perform an illegal right turn!
I realise that this is to do with mapping source rather than the unit itself, but it is something to be wary of.
The widescreen display is very clear and there is useful information such as expected time of arrival and the speed limit shown next to your current speed.
There are warnings to indicate speed cameras, but this does rely on you keeping the database regularly updated and will never be accurate for 100% of camera locations.
I have used sat nav systems that get very annoyed when you don't follow their chosen route.
Thankfully, the 520 is very quick to adapt to a new route.
I tested the 520 in town and country and it did a good job of guiding me around.
It is not the cheapest unit on the market but it does have some very useful extra features.
A built-in phone hands free kit, music player and location entry via voice recognition are very useful extras, if only it could also hide itself in the glove box.
Oh yes, it does work straight out of the box...
