Advertising for today's children
Character Options doll
Character Options is one of the biggest toy and games companies in the UK.

Based in Oldham around 50% of their merchandise is licensed - that means it's inspired by a TV series or movie like Doctor Who or a Disney Film.

But they also produce toys inspired and designed by their own teams with no famous brands or characters behind them.

Advertising their products, whether they are licensed or not, is crucial especially in the run up to Christmas.

In fact, the company achieve 65% of their turnover in the last three months of the year.

But not only has the world of advertising changed dramatically since Character Options started in 1991, methods and budgets for advertising licensed toys are very different to advertising unlicensed toys.

And the company are operating in the highly regulated arena of advertising to children.

Rachel went to Oldham to find out how the company are dealing with these issues.

You can watch her report at the top of the page.
