The hot seat interviews
In the hot seat
Robin Saxby speaks to Adam next Tuesday
Every Tuesday Adam Shaw will be interviewing one of the most powerful chief executives in the country.

In this series of interviews with chief executives from the FTSE 100, we will discover their views on how to run a company, how to become a chief executive and the outlook for their own companies and shareholders.

This coming Tuesday, Robin Saxby, chairman and chief executive of ARM Holdings is in the hotseat.

Robin Saxby

Robin is the techie-entrepreneur who wants to turn ARM into one of the most important technology players in the world.

The company designs and licenses micro processors, or microchips as they used to be known, that are an integral part of everything from mobile phones, to home computers and video games.

And at a time when large parts of the hi-tech industry seem to be in trouble, Robin claims ARM has the ability to flourish.

"There's enough upside to compensate for the downside," he says.

A rollercoaster

The company was one of the chief beneficiaries of the recent technology boom but has suffered in recent times along with the rest of the market.

Its shares hit a high of just over 10 in February 2000 before falling to their current level of 255p.

The fall has come despite the fact that ARM continues to make money - something many of its peers have never done.

Looking to the future, Robin feels confident that continued growth is achievable and that we shouldn't talk down the potential of companies like his.

With more confidence, he feels that we'd all have a better chance of success.

To see the full interview, tune in to next Tuesday's show or visit the website after the show.
