South Africa's Daily Sun

Thank you for your views on Black and White and Read All Over, broadcast on Tuesday, 17 October, 2006 at 2150 BST on BBC Two.

The comments published on this page reflect the balance of views we received.

Your programme was excellent. We were rivetted. It showed SA as it is - as all South African's know it to be. If the Daily Sun has found a way to expose and highlight the reality of the crime problem in South Africa, accompanied by sensational stories, good on them! Thank you for showing the real face of SA - albeit from the slightly different perspective! Very clever!

The Daily Sun cashes in on the people's fears and fantasies and dabbles in a kind of journalism in which fact is secondary. I can claim today that I dropped from Mars, and perhaps that would be their headline story tomorrow.
Mduduzi Mathuthu, Cardiff

As a white expat from a "privileged" background, I thought your programme was a fascinating and brilliant insight into the REAL New South Africa. It was an absolutely accurate depiction of reality with a glimmer of hope about progression in South African society. I suspect many white South Africans frown upon the Sun, but the reality is it represents the majority. Let's hope it can assist the cross-pollination of cultures that is desperately needed in South Africa!
Anthony King, Dublin

An interesting but depressing programme - certainly depressing were the plight of people's lives in South Africa, but most of all, those new middle class vultures picking away at the carcass.
A Harrison, London

I can't believe The Sun can be so irresponsible. It's not educational or informative. It thrives on gossip. It's negative and why only township stories, does nothing happen in the suburbs?
Zoleka Tara, UK

I have just watched you programme tonight. Hats off to the Daily Sun. That has been missing from South Africa for as long as I can remember.
Glen Halkerston, Berkshire
