I watched your programme last night on painkiller addiction and it brought home a frightening fact - I am an addict too. I take 10 to 15 Solpadeine a day, and I too received no help from the medical profession. I have been taking Solpadeine for about 12 years and I am also now on prescribed migraine medication. My headaches have been described as cluster headaches, diamond headaches and severe migraine attacks. One attack put me in hospital. I'm trying to get pregnant and do not wish to put my future baby at risk.
Rebecca Walsh

My girlfriend is addicted to pain killers. This story has tackled a big taboo subject. It has helped me to understand that she and I are not alone and that her addiction can be beaten. Thank you

I watched tonight's programme about headaches caused by over use of painkillers. Watching that woman was like watching myself. I started on Solpadeine but am now taking Co-codomol. I just wish someone could tell us how to get off them without having to suffer the withdrawal and continued headaches. My doctor told me to wean myself off them but believe me it's not easy when you have to get on with a busy schedule whilst suffering headaches.

I think your reporting is irresponsible and misrepresentative of the facts regarding the accidental releasing of an informer's name. You did not mention the fact that there are practically no reprisals in the UK and your report will inevitably lead to people not telling the police of crimes they know about. You will make people fear things that are extremely unlikely to happen. The case has already been handled appropriately ie the police apologised and gave a substantial amount of compensation to the people involved - more than enough to set up a good home elsewhere in the country or abroad. It is unfortunate that their names were released but you have taken it out of all proportion. If the couple moved to another town with their 135, 000, then there is practically no way they could be traced by the criminals. They are obviously paranoid.
Peter, UK

The story about Ken Ralphs was incredible! How can the court justify the laughable amount of compensation ordered to be paid to this man? I would be very interested to hear the results of a public inquiry.

I've just watched this week's programme and feel I fit into this group of people who use too many painkillers. I use Nurofen Plus and have done for years. I have migraines and tension headaches. I have been to my doctors on many occasions. I have tried many preventative medicines for my headaches and only a few have worked but only for a limited time. I feel frustrated and awkward going back to the doctor again to moan about my headaches.
Janine Sargeant

Your programme on everyday painkillers was very good and is long overdue. The pharmaceutical industry has a lot to answer for, and unfortunately so do our GPs who just encourage pill taking without pointing out or being aware of the consequences. It is time more education on alternative means of controlling pain was highlighted. I am a complementary therapist and am concerned about this issue as it is bigger than many realise.

The story about Ken Ralphs was incredible! I cannot believe how badly he has been treated. How can the court justify the laughable amount of compensation ordered to be paid to this man? I would be very interested to hear the results of a public inquiry.

I disagree with publicising negative attitudes towards shopping criminals

I watched your programme and was shocked by your story about a man who had testified to the police two years ago about a suspected drug dealer and who currently drifts through England to escape the revenge of a criminal gang. It is an outrage and a clear violation of human rights that the British government or police has not provided proper protection for him. They might want to consider emigrating to the Netherlands.
P.Ellerbroek, MD, Netherlands

I am appalled at the programme you have just broadcast. You covered a story of a police informant whose name was accidentally released. I disagree with publicising negative attitudes towards shopping criminals. I feel your story will do nothing but put people off reporting serious crimes and in this case the informant has been awarded compensation.
Helen Rooke, England

I just hope I'm never the victim of a criminal who would otherwise have been shopped by an informant now put off by the Crimewatch presenter telling them they can't trust the police.

I thank you for your article on painkillers. My mother takes Solpadeine but now she has decided to do some research into pills and has found advice on how to stop taking them.
