South East: Stand by for stand pipes?

Standpipe
How can standpipes be avoided?

The Campaign to Protect Rural England has been looking at the burgeoning water crisis in the South East for the past three years.

This week they give us an exclusive preview of their forthcoming report.

In a filmed report they outline what they see as the causes of the current crisis and offer a number of solutions.

How will we avoid standpipes on the streets in future?

The CPRE suggests recycling and treating our sewage and moving water down from the North as two possible answers.

Meanwhile, The Commons Environment Audit Committee published their report at the end of March 2006 and claimed that:

" ... the need to build new homes is seen as an absolute imperative and is used by the Government as a mandate to sweep aside any concerns that people may have about the environmental impacts of those plans."

How does the Government plan to protect the South East from further environmental damage?

Is the South East at risk of further shortages, who is to blame?

As St George's Day rolls around again it has emerged that one of the reasons so many people in England ignore it is because they don't know what to do to celebrate.

Apparently if there was a set celebration, like Bonfire Night, then more people would be inclined to make the most of their national day.

We ask the people of Rye what they think would be an appropriate ritual to mark the occasion.

How do you think 23 April should be celebrated? Text us on 07786 209252 or email us via the link below.
