Curry house
Immigration: Restauranteurs are vulnerable to changes in legislation

Paul Siegert visits the Nizam Tandoori Restaurant in East Grinstead to discover how new legislation could lead to curries being cooked by Eastern European rather than Asian chefs.

Home Secretary Charles Clarke has presented plans for a new points based system that will prioritise highly skilled workers or those who have been sponsored by employers.

It will consolidate more than 80 existing work and study immigration schemes into five tiers.

At the top are highly skilled and qualified individuals, near the bottom are low skilled workers here to fill temporary labour shortages.

Restauranteurs, farmers and the construction industry are amongst the employers in the South East most likely to be affected by the scheme.

Meanwhile The Joint Council for the Welfare of Immigrants say that it could create a workforce ripe for exploitation and abuse.

What do you think? Is a points system a good idea?

Is immigration a positive thing in the South East?

Nanny state

Brighton and Hove top the Asbo league in the South East with a current total of 80.

Overall the region has 181 anti social behaviour orders issued by the courts.

It is an area of increasing concern in our region and has led to the launch of the 'Mum's Army' candidates standing in the forthcoming local elections.

The Home Office have a plan though in the form of an army of 'Supernannies' who could be sent into the homes of problem families in an attempt to tackle children's antisocial behaviour.

We ask viewers what they think of the plan and Donna Still, a Mum's Army candidate joins us in the studio to discuss it.
