South East: Final straw?

Council tax bill
England council tax up by 4.5%

None of us like paying tax but there is one in particular that incenses people so much that some of them are prepared to go to jail rather than pay it.

It is the Council Tax, and one group particularly affected are those on fixed incomes, like pensioners.

As the final South East council announces its charge for the forthcoming year, we meet some people in Hastings who feel so strongly that they are planning a campaign to oust their local councillors at the May 2006 local elections.

Can the current Leader of the Council convince them that they are wrong?

We try to include viewers comments on the programme so If you want to join in the debate on Council Tax then email or text your opinion to 07786 209252.

Heart

18 month old Claudia Twiby had a miniature artificial heart fitted whilst she waited for a donor to become available.

Claudia is now making excellent progress but her parents know that they were lucky to find a donor.

There is a shortage of organs, particularly for children. Claudia's mother wants to see the law changed so that carrying a donor card will mean you do not want to donate your organs.

She thinks that the opt out system will produce more donors and more hope than the current opt in system.

If you have any thoughts on organ donation email or text us on 07786 209252
