Is the South East environment friendly? |
Two families volunteer to have their carbon footprint analysed with very different results.
In the South East we are ahead of most other regions in our consumption of water.
We drive an average of 8200 miles a year - that is 1400 miles a year more than the other regions.
We are the third largest consumers of domestic electricity and the second highest consumers of household gas.
Perhaps in an effort to redress the balance we head the league table of recycling. But does any of this really matter?
Both local and central Government are spending money to encourage us all to recycle and reduce domestic waste but if only 9% of waste stems from homes, is this really money well spent?
Pet police
As part of the Animal Welfare Bill every domesticated animal will have a code of conduct tailored to its species.
The Code for cat owners suggests that owners provide mental stimulation for their pets and advises that "cats should be given privacy when they have a call of nature".
With a potential 5000 fine for people failing to comply, we ask the regions pet owners what they think.
Rant of the week
A parent struggling to get their child into a school of their choice gives their opinion on parental preference.
Paper review
Melody Ryall, Group Editor of the Kentish Times Newspaper Group, casts her eye over the regional stories that are making political news this week.
