Fingerprint appeal

Alan McNamara is serving a 30 month sentence for a burglary he says he did not commit.

His legal team launched an appeal that was turned down at the beginning of January 2002.

The Hon. Mr Justice Morison said that McNamara "had a fair trial with an impeccable summing up and [was] fairly and properly convicted in my opinion".

Alan's family and legal team are planning another appeal, though it is unlikely that a decision will be made before his earliest release date on 14 August 2002, with an electronic tag.

Alan's wife Lisa wrote the following note to Panorama and the viewers who have expressed support for their case:

Thank you for your continuing support for Alan. He is now residing at Her Majesties Pleasure for two and half years for a crime he is completely innocent of. A TRUE victim of a miscarriage of justice! We are doing all we can to get him out.The appeal is already underway.
