Sam Taylor-Wood was born in London in 1967. She graduated from Goldsmiths' College in 1990 and is closely linked with the 'YBA' generation of artists.

At the Venice Biennale in 1997 Taylor-Wood won the Illy Caf� Prize for Most Promising Young Artist. She was nominated for the Turner Prize in 1998.

She has had numerous major solo exhibitions in Europe and the United States including the Prada Foundation, Milan; Hirshhorn Museum, Washington DC; Centre Nationale de la Photographie, Paris and Museo Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofia, Madrid.

In 2002 following her successful exhibition Mute at White Cube� , London, Taylor-Wood exhibited at the Stedelijk Museum, Amsterdam. She will also be exhibiting at the Mus�e d'Art Contemporain de Montreal, 10 October - 6 January 2003.
