Journalist, critic and author Philip Hensher was born in London 1965. He has written three novels, Other Lulus, Kitchen Venom and Pleasured, as well as a collection of short stories, The Bedroom of the Mister's House.
He also wrote the libretto for Thomas Ade's opera Powder her Face, and has a regular newspaper column in The Independent and Mail on Sunday.
He is one of the judges of this year's Booker Prize, and his new novel, The Mulberry Empire, is published in 2002.
