Welcome to The Buzz, our weekly round up of how the stories Newsnight report are being talked about in the blogosphere, twitterverse and other social media.
UNDER THE SKIN OF THE ENGLISH DEFENCE LEAGUE
Newsnight, this week had a special report on the English Defence League in which reporter Paraic O'Brien spent weeks finding out what makes them tick.
The group, which describes itself as "Peacefully Protesting Against Militant Islam", has been hitting the headlines this week after a series of large-scale protests.
"They look like a bunch of National Front skinheads, but everything they are saying is at odds with that."
Also, watching Newsnight was Loonwatch.com. Comments under his posting said "I predict that the EDL will fizzle out. This report says they are getting more organized, which may be the case, but they seem like something out of a Monty Python sketch".
One element of Paraic O'Brien's report was the police saying that the EDL are using the internet to get organised.
EDL have a massive presence on Facebook with 181 groups, despite many having closed status, where content is "limited to the public".
However, their Twitter following is very small, with just 100 followers.
EXPENSES - CLAIM AND COUNTER CLAIM
The row about MP expenses has taken another twist, with MPs angry at being told to repay money as a result of a review of all expenses since 2004.
As the expenses saga rumbles on, it has not escaped Rev Fr Edward Tomlinson, who urges us to "Pray that those in power may do better". He says on The Saint Barnabas' Blog "politics is a dirty business, of that I am certain".
But Liberal Bureaucracy bucks the trend, sticking up for MPs, ending his argument with this:
"Just as being a Muslim doesn't make you a terrorist, being a politician doesn't make you a crook. Whilst most of us seem perfectly willing to accept the former, the latter appears to be more difficult to comprehend."
An Incredulous Eye On The Isles keeps it short and sweet with "Their self-build ivory towers have put them so out of touch with reality that it is frightening".
But Frank Chalk is confused and asks since when has paying back what you have dishonestly taken, been considered a punishment? "Imagine a judge who said 'OK Mr Scrote, just pay back the £50 you nicked from Mrs Miggins and we'll say no more about it.'"
There's not a shred of sympathy for the MPs on the message boards on Democratic Underground . The thread starts with this comment "British MPs really are disgusting. These people didn't raise so much as a whisper when Tony Blair lied us into the Iraq war but the moment they get caught with their snouts in the trough they squeal like stuck pigs".
Welsh politician, Glyn Davies, on his blog A view from Rural Wales recites a story when he was attacked for "ripping" off his constituents, the lady in question ended her conversation saying she was going to vote UKIP.
But at least one MP is happy as pointed out by LOBBYDOG.
ARE THE GREENS PART OF THE CLIMATE CHANGE PROBLEM?
Justin Rowlatt, Newsnight's Ethical Man asks whether having moved green issues into the political mainstream, if the green movement offer solutions to global warming?
Greens on trial: Are they too conservative?
Saying that part of the problem could be that the Greens are seen by some as being too radical did not go down too well on Media Lens Message Board.
Comments under the posting Current say "It's scary to think that in as little as six years time we might be in a situation where global warming could be uncontrolled".
The Daily (Maybe) blog starts with "I don't know if you saw it last night but Zac Goldsmith certainly did a good job agreeing with everything Caroline Lucas said on Newsnight...."
The timing of Newsnight's piece was apt, as the following day was Blog Action Day an annual event that unites the worlds bloggers in posting about the same issue on the same day. This year the subject was, yes you've guessed it, climate change .
