Do you know the cheapest and most efficient way of paying for goods and services or spending money both in the UK and abroad? One method that's free is the Faster Payments Service, which should move money between UK banks in seconds rather than days. Launched three years ago, the system has processed more than one billion payments. But banks still get complaints about gaps in the service. You will often have to pay though for other types of transactions when using a debit or credit card. For example, if you want to purchase goods abroad or buy foreign currency you face being charged a currency conversion fee or a credit card cash advance.
