UK individuals are defrauded of an estimated £4bn a year according to the National Fraud Authority. Consumers are duped by convincing scams including fake lottery and share sales, online ticketing and rental fraud. Separate analysis by fraud prevention service CIFAS reported over 100,000 cases of identity fraud last year and over 21,000 instances of personal accounts being hijacked by fraudsters.
