Customers of some energy companies are already being warned that the cost of powering their homes will rise next month. In December, British Gas will raise gas and electricity tariffs by an average of 7% and Scottish and Southern Energy will increase their gas prices by 9.4%. Both providers say rising costs are to blame including a 25% increase in wholesale gas prices since the Spring. Campaigning organisation Consumer Focus are advising energy customers that they could save up to £200 per year by changing their method of payment or tariff.
