On Wednesday's programme Paul Lewis put your questions about maternity and parental rights to a panel of expert guests. New mothers will be able to transfer the second half of their year-long maternity leave to the father, the government confirmed last month. The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills says the changes would take effect from April 2011. Under the plan, if a mother returns to work, the father could take six months off with half paid at £123.06 week. This will enable parents to share a period of paid leave between them, giving families greater flexibility in how they choose to look after their children. The proposed changes affect England, Scotland and Wales. Northern Ireland is expected to follow later.
