On Wednesday's programme Paul Lewis and guests answered your questions on charitable giving. At this time of year many charities have launched Christmas appeals, cards and gifts in a bid to boost falling donations. Research by the Charities Aid Foundation (CAF) reveals that despite the economic downturn, 54% of UK adults still donate to a charity each month, but the overall value of donations has fallen by £1.3bn. Cash remains the most popular method of giving but only four in ten donors make use of Gift Aid. Gift Aid is a way for charities to boost the value of money donated by UK taxpayers, by claiming back the basic rate tax paid by the donor. It is estimated that around £750m of Gift Aid goes unclaimed each year. If you are considering making a gift to charity you may have a question for the programme.
