On Wednesday's programme Paul Lewis and guests answered your calls on financial help and support for carers. Around six million people in the UK are carers and it is estimated that a further six thousand people take on a caring responsibility every day. Research by Carers UK found that 72% are worse off financially as a result this responsibility. Over three million people try to combine work with regular care, but the demands of caring forces one in five employees to give up work altogether. If you care for somebody and have a question about accessing support or financial help, Paul Lewis and guests will be waiting to help. Do you have a question about benefit entitlements or direct payments? How do you apply for help? What is a carer's assessment, who is eligible and what should you do to prepare for one? How do you obtain practical help such as equipment, home modification or access to a break? Perhaps you are trying to juggle work and care, what are your employment rights and how do you enforce them? And if you are unable to work, how do you apply for Home Responsibilities Protection (HRP)? Whatever your concern, our panel of experts were here to give you advice. Paul Lewis was joined by: - Jean French, advice and information manager, Carers UK
- Lucy McLynn, partner, Bates Wells & Braithwaite
- Derek Sinclair, senior parent adviser, Contact a Family
