 | Coping with the recession: Property Saturday, 29 August 2009 at 1204 BST On Radio 4 and Online |
The final Money Box summer special with Paul Lewis looks at the housing market and its impact on our finances. The outlook's pretty mixed. Average UK house prices are more than 20% below their peak. But mortgage approvals are up and in some areas, where there's a shortage of supply, house prices are even beginning to rise. But are the latest figures just a lull before a further plunge? Experts predict there's more economic bad news on the way this autumn as unemployment and house re-possessions are set to continue. Landlord Shona Davis |
Money Box debates the issues. Bob Howard reports from Northern Ireland where the biggest house price boom was followed by the biggest bust. And Paul Lewis hears the do's and don'ts of investing in property from award winning landlord Shona Davison in Sheffield. The panel of experts will be: Paula John, 'Your Mortgage' magazine. Peter Bolton King, National Association of Estate Agents Jonathan Davis, chartered financial planner, Armstrong Davis. The programme will be broadcast on Saturday, 29 August at 1204 BST and repeated on Wednesday, 2 September at 1502 BST.
