One year on from the run on the Northern Rock bank, Paul Lewis went to Newcastle to assess how its savers, borrowers and shareholders as well as staff and the community were doing - and what the future might hold.

Northern Rock is now nationalised, but it used to be more than solely a bank for the people of Newcastle - it was a provider of jobs, a donor to charity, and a sponsor of the rugby and football clubs.

Among those Money Box talked to were Ron Sandler, executive chairman of Northern Rock.

We also heard from local people who had been affected by the bank's troubles - asked about the true impact on the region, and discussed with a financial adviser how people with mortgage or savings problems could find a solution.

And what are implications for the rest of the UK - has banking changed forever and have lessons been learnt about how to deal better with similar crises?
