If you need independent financial advice the following organisations can help in your search for a good advisor.

IFA PROMOTIONS

IFA Promotions will give you contact details for three local advisors.

You can select an advisor by expertise, and whether you would like to pay by fee or commission.

INSTITUTE OF FINANCIAL PLANNING

On the IFP website you can search for advisers by geographical area or expertise.

The financial planners you are referred to here offer fee-based advice.

THE PERSONAL FINANCE SOCIETY

The Personal Finance Society has a searchable website which offers the 25 financial advisers nearest to you, and allows you to choose by expertise; and a fee or commission basis.

The advisers you are referred to hold the Advanced Financial Planning Certificate.

It also has a guide to getting financial advice.

ETHICAL INVESTMENT RESEARCH SERVICE

If you would like to make a more ethical investment then this organisation will help you find appropriate financial advice.

CHECK IFA AUTHORISATION

Once you have found an advisor, you can check they are authorised with the Financial Services Authority.

The FSA website has a searchable register of firms, individuals and bodies that come under its jurisdiction.
