Marsalis says seeing Katrina's aftermath was devastating |
In a Hardtalk Extra interview broadcast on Friday 30th September, Tom Brook talks to the jazz musician Wynton Marsalis.
Wynton Marsalis is one of the world's most respected jazz musicians.
He is a trumpet player of rare talent and a fierce defender of the genre's traditions.
He's also a native of New Orleans and recently organised a benefit concert for the Hurricane Katrina relief effort at New York's Jazz at Lincoln Center.
He believes that Katrina exposed the deep problems of race and class in his home town but he is sure that New Orleans can be rebuilt.
HARDtalk Extra can be seen on Fridays on BBC World at 03:30 GMT, 08:30 GMT, 15:30 GMT, 18:30 GMT and 23:30 GMT.
