Rural Newfoundland on Canada's Atlantic coast seduced generations of settlers with plentiful supplies of cod.

But the reserves of cod collapsed and around 40,000 people lost their jobs following a total fishing moratorium in 1992.

But then Newfoundland struck lucky by striking oil offshore and discovering valuable reserves of minerals. And with a new wave of tourists, the future once again looks bright for the province, as Rajan Datar reports.
