| Life under Gaddafi ![]() Libya has been criticised for its human rights record BBC Radio 4's Crossing Continents was broadcast on Thursday, 1 May, 2003 at 1100 BST.
Crossing Continents gives a rare insight into life inside the secretive rogue state of Libya. For many years Libya has been outcast for supporting militant groups. Inside the country, ordinary Libyans have been left to the whims of Colonel Gaddafi's personal brand of revolutionary socialism. Everything is run by the government, and no-one feels safe discussing politics. But there are signs that this closely-controlled society is opening up, both to the West and domestically. So, can we really believe that Colonel Gaddafi is about to change? Rosie Goldsmith finds out what life is like in this North African pariah state. The programme will be repeated on Monday, 5 May, 2003, at 2030 BST on BBC Radio 4. Reporter: Rosie Goldsmith |
