Two of Britain's most experienced politicians gave their views on the war. Former Liberal Democrat leader Lord Ashdown said the momentum gained by the Northern Alliance must be maintained to bring about a swift conclusion to the conflict. Former deputy prime minister Lord Heseltine said the war needed to be fought quickly to ease the strain on the international coalition. Speaking from the World Trade Organisation conference in Qatar, Trade Secretary Patricia Hewitt explained how the latest round of WTO talks needed to create a fairer deal for developing countries.
