The Foreign Secretary, Jack Straw, warned that the war against terrorism could go on "indefinitely" and asked the public and the media not to expect instant solutions.

The former Nato Supreme Commander, Europe, General Wesley Clark told Sir David that

Former Senator George Mitchell told Breakfast with Frost that he believes that the war weariness which led to a breakthrough in Northern Ireland would eventually bring a solution to the Middle East conflict.

The Commonwealth Secretary General, Don McKinnon spoke to Sir David after arriving from Zimbabwe. He said the land situation there has yet to be resolved.

The President of Sri Lanka, Chandrika Kumaratunga, spoke to Sir David about September 11th and the terrorist situation in her own country.
