Sir David Frost was joined this week by the Secretary of State for Health, Alan Milburn MP, the Liberal Democrat Leader Charles Kennedy MP, Philip Pullman - author of The Amber Spyglass and winner of the 2001 Whitbread Book of the Year, Tina Brown - former editor of Talk magazine and Sir Louis Blom-Cooper QC on the subject of the Bloody Sunday Inquiry.

Impressionist Rory Bremner and Jane Moore, journalist and author, joined Sir David for his review of the Sunday newspapers.

Alan Milburn said he and the Conservatives held completely different points of view with regard to the NHS. He also said he believed Iain Duncan-Smith MP made a "fundamental strategic blunder" ealier this week in drawing an individual patient, 94 year old Rose Addis, into the debate.

Charles Kennedy said that the Liberal Democrats are ready to drop their long-standing commitment to a penny on income tax - which was a key policy in their last two general election manifestos. He also said he has deliberately moved his party away from the Government by ending co-operation through the joint Cabinet Committee.

Sir David spoke to author Philip Pullman about the fact that his much trumpeted book The Amber Spyglass is officially categorised as a children's book. It is the first time a children's author has taken the overall prize but Pullman said he intended his writing to be for audiences across the board. He also confirmed his intention to continue writing.

This week commemorates the 30th anniversary of Bloody Sunday, which resulted in the deaths of 13 Catholics in Londonderry. Sir Louis Blom-Cooper spoke to Sir David about the resultant inquiry, in which he said he did not believe those blamed for the events should face criminal proceedings.

Tina Brown, speaking to Sir David from New York, spoke of her sadness at the closure of Talk Magazine but said she felt the recession was a significant factor in the decision to take it off the press.
