It seems as though the Brits are taking over Broadway at the moment.

The British actor Bill Nighy has just received a rapturous reception in a new play, The Vertical Hour, by David Hare.

Directed by Sam Mendes, the play examines British and American attitudes to the Iraq war.

And, unusually for a British production, it's gone straight to Broadway, without any London previews.

Tom Brook went to see the opening night. You can watch his report for Breakfast here on this page and watch more of his interview with Sam Mendes and his wife, Kate Winslet.

  • The Vertical Hour, by David Hare, is scheduled to open in London in Spring 2007
