Did you know today is "stir up Sunday"? A day when we traditionally gather round the kitchen table to mix our Christmas puddings...
We're now being encouraged to adopt a modern twist on this tradition by the Homeless charity Crisis who say why not buy a Christmas pud to give a homeless person Christmas with "all the trimmings"?

Here's Kay Polle's recipe
Ingredients
4oz flour
2oz breadcrumbs
3oz suet
1 1/2 lbs raisons, sultanas and currants
2 -3 fl oz of orange juice
1 tablespoon of grated lemon peel
1 grated cooking apple (small)
1 grated carrot (small)
2 eggs
1 tablespoon of golden syrup
3oz mixed citrus peel
a teaspoon of cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon of ground clove
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
5oz of sugar
a pinch of salt
Method
Mix all dry ingredients together
Add eggs and stir
Add sugar and stir
Add fruit and stir
Add a tablespoon of brandy
Put mixture in a greased pudding bowl
Cover with grease-proof paper
Steam for 3-4 hours
