The songs, the singing and the giving
Sir Elton John
Sir Elton: "The way I behaved was completely out of line"
Criticised for his decadence but knighted for his generosity. Just one of the many paradoxes in the life of Sir Elton John.

He can easily earn a million pounds for a single gig, but he's just as likely to perform for free and donate all proceeds to his Aids charity.

And he often finds his way into the papers for all the wrong reasons: a fiery temper and occasional outbursts that you might say, are more than capable of 'turning the air blue'.

But there's a kinder side to Elton - a side devoted to helping children in Africa and for his aids foundation (see link on the right), a side that sees him using his vast wealth to help good causes

On a recent trip to Africa, Sir Elton came face to face with disease, prejudice and poverty.

In the second of our reports from Las Vegas, he tells Breakfast's Julia Botfield how his own excesses made him think of others.
