Tony Parsons: Stories we could tell
Tony Parsons on BBC Breakfast
Parsons: the new novel draws on his experiences at the NME
Cast your mind back to 1977: the year of the Queen's Silver Jubilee, the death of Elvis - and the birth of punk.

It's also the setting for Tony Parsons' new book, Stories We Could Tell.

The author of the best-selling Man and Boy, has chosen to go back to his roots as a music journalist with the New Musical Express.

He and Julie Birchill worked together on the ground-breaking rock paper and later married and divorced.

Parsons' latest novel tells the story of three young rock journalists, beginning on the day of Elvis' death, in August 1977.

It follows their lives - and their loves.
