 WMC: one of the leading arts venues in the world |
The Cardiff Bay area of South Wales will be given a fantastic boost today when the Wales Millennium Centre opens today. The WMC is a multi-million pound arts venue and will be the first of its kind in Wales.
The Queen will attend a special gala performance with other members of the royal family, but today Breakfast was first behind the scenes with a look at the striking new building.
Our guest presenter Nicki Chapman joined Breakfast for the day live from the WMC
Nicki had a spectacular line up of guests representing the best in music, arts and culture from Wales
As well as being home of the Welsh National Opera, the WMC will also play host to ballet, musicals and big name singers.
It will also form a base for lots of community groups including the Welsh youth movement Urdd.

We met the actor and singer Michael Ball who is taking part in the Gala weekend to mark the centre's opening. He'll sing two songs at the Royal Gala on Sunday saying 'I'm thrilled to be part of it all.'
Ball went on to add that the WMC is a really exciting space with an impressive auditorium and fantastic acoustics.
We also looked at some of the arts and community groups who will be based in the centre in a special report by Sian Lloyd. Click on the link to the right to see that report, you can also see Wyre Davis' interview with the architect who designed the imposing structure.
Nicki met Welsh actors Jonathan Pryce and Sian Phillips. Finally, we heard from Welsh bass-baritone opera star Bryn Terfel will be telling us more about the WMC which will be home to the Welsh National Opera with a 1'900 seat theatre.
