| Dougray Scott ![]() Scott stars alongside Tim Roth and Rupert Everett It may have been plagued by financial problems, and it's even thought it went bankrupt twice in production, but Dougray Scott's latest film is all set for release on Friday 16 May. To Kill a King takes place in an England ruined by years of Civil War between the Cavaliers and Roundheads. It charts the stormy relationship between Lord General Thomas Fairfax (Dougray Scott) and his loyal but ruthless deputy Oliver Cromwell (Tim Roth). Having defeated the forces of King Charles I (Rupert Everett), Fairfax and Cromwell aim to rebuild their ruined England. But Cromwell's plans are far more radical than those of his superior. But to get the film made Scott had to sink 70,000 of his own money into the project. The film is entirely British-made and received no public funding. The director noted that he had to add an additional 30 seconds to the producers' credits because so many people had contributed the odd 50 here and there. Scott maintains he never even considered the idea that the film would collapse. "I was too determined. I would not accept it would not happen," he says. "I've been working on this for over two years and there are some things in life you just cannot walk away from. This is one of them. It feels special." Big Break Dougray Scott began his acting career working in regional theatre and making television appearances. His first big break came when he was cast as Major Rory Taylor in the popular UK series, "Soldier, Soldier." He gained notoriety as corrupt cop, Terry Walsh, in the movie "Twin Town." That role led to his being cast in 1998 as Prince Henry, opposite Drew Barrymore, in "Ever After." It was here that his star started to rise faster. Since then he's done a variety of projects including starring roles as Cameron in the brilliant 'This Year's Love', Sean Ambrose in Mission Impossible 2 and Tom Jericho in Enigma alongside Kate Winslet. |
