Our series Chasing Places continues on Breakfast today as we look at the plight of one 13 year old girl who has to travel 7 miles from her home to school.

Live in the studio will be Ingrid Sutherland who will be giving advice on how to appeal against a local education authority's decision about your child's school place.

Nicola Sinclair's story

Nicola Sinclair who is 13 lives in Wellingborough, Northamptonshire.

She takes a seven mile bus journey to Southfield school for girls in Kettering which costs �15 a week as she doesn't qualify for a free bus pass.

Her mother, Wendy Kay, wants her to go to school in Wellingborough town but can't find her a place.

All are foundation schools which means that they can't be forced to take more pupils over their limit.

Schools in Wellingborough are oversubscribed, except one. Wendy doesn't want her younger daughter to go there because her elder daughter had a bad time at the school and was eventually transferred.

Now, she finds, she cannot even get a free bus pass for Nichola because it's been decided that she's voluntarily chosen the long journey.
