As coalition forces move ever closer to the Iraqi capital Baghdad, attention is beginning to turn to what the country will be like when the war is finally over.

Breakfast discussed this with Middle East analyst Dr Toby Dodge and Dr Sultan Barakat who specialises in post-war reconstruction.

The US Secretary of State Colin Powell promised a role for the UN in rebuilding Iraq in Brussels yesterday but there are rumours that opinion is split on that back home in Washington.

The issue is of course a delicate one. Some Iraqis may well want rid of Saddam Hussein but do they want to be taken over, as they may see it, by Americans instead?

Dr Sultan Barakat

Has extensive experience in planning development and country strategy.

He has written several publications about refugee shelter, humanitarian aid and peace building strategy.

Also an expert on disaster mitigation his experience covers the rebuilding of Afghanistan, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Croatia and Iraq.
