| Shock and awe ![]() Coalition forces carried out more than 1,000 raids It seems as though the shock and awe attack threatened by the USA has finally materialised. Overnight, British and American forces carried out a massive series of air attacks on Iraq, with the focus on Baghdad. And this morning, as Breakfast went on air, came news that two RAF Sea King helicopters have crashed into international waters off Iraq, with seven dead. To get the latest, Breakfast spoke to Captain Alan Massey, of the Ark Royal Also on today's Breakfast:
Using our special virtual war map graphics, we went through the last 24 hours, step by step. Not all British families have heeded the Foreign Office's advice to leave Kuwait.
Jane O'Brien caught up with two British women who stayed - and found that life has gone on unchanged, despite the war. They told her that the biggest fear has come from their families back home, who are worried that they're sheltering in bunkers every night. That was one of the questions we asked our Middle East Expert George Joffe.
His conclusion is that it's going to be very difficult to catch him - or prove it if they do kill him. He also explained how Turkey's intervention in Northern Iraq has de-railed American military strategy there. We spoke to organisers of today's Stop the War demonstration in London. They're expecting around half a million people to protest against the war in Iraq. That's less than the record numbers who turned out in February to protest - but, say organisers, this protest has been called at short notice. Secretary of State for Scotland Helen Liddell expressed her condolences to the families of those involved in the latest helicopter crash in the Gulf. As events are moving fast in Iraq, all times are approximate |
