| You're free, Breakfast tells Derek ![]() Breakfast's main story this morning is the arrest of the British pensioner Derek Bond. Overnight, the American Attorney's office has confirmed what Derek Bond had said all along: it's a case of mistaken identity. The 72 year old pensioner from Bristol should be free later this morning (Wednesday) after spending two weeks in a South African jail. One of Breakfast's producers broke the news to Derek Bond this morning: "Well it'll be very welcome news if that's confirmed because I am relly at the end now," a clearly emotional Mr Bond told us. "That is really good news if what you say is true, but I have had so many false hopes I just hope it's the right one." We also spoke to Mr Bond's British lawyer, Andrew Gregg.
The FBI had put out an alert via interpol for a man called Derek Sykes, in connection with a telemarketing fraud which has conned people out of millions of dollars. Overnight, the American Attorney's office confirmed that they'd made a mistake and apologised to Derek and his family. They have since arrested a man in Las Vegas. |
