Fame Academy: Naomi's story
Naomi Roper performs live on Fame Academy
Naomi told us she has no regrets
Nineteen-year old Naomi Roper knows what it's like to be given the chance of a lifetime - and then watch it crumble.

She was selected from thousands of hopefuls to join the BBC's Fame Academy, the latest "reality TV" show which gives contestants the chance of a million pound recording deal and a champagne lifestyle for a year.

She was the sparkliest. It's so unfair she has to leave

But, for Naomi, none of this will happen.

On Monday she was told to leave - not because of any misbehaviour, or even artistic differences with her fellow cast members, but because she has a throat complaint.

This morning, Naomi came in to the Breakfast studio to explain how she feels

Naomi: must rest her voice

"I have soft nodules on my vocal chords, kind of like corns - from misuse," she told Sian. "It was devastating but long-term it was the right thing to do"

Naomi, who's from the Scottish Borders, has had persistent throat problems since she entered Fame Academy.

She's been told she'll have to rest her voice completely for three to four weeks before beginning therapy.

She's disappointed - but she accepts that the problem with her voice needs to be sorted out:

"I loved the Fame Academy," she told us."I really enjoyed it - it was like a magnified version of acting school."

Naomi was told she had to the leave Fame Academy on Monday.

The remaining students were shocked. Fellow Scot Ainslie Henderson said: "She was the sparkliest, it's so unfair that she has to leave."

Her unscheduled exit follows the departure of Cheltenham teacher Ashley House who was was kicked out on Friday night during a live show when three of the contestants sang for their survival.

Since being knocked out, 28-year-old Ashley has criticised the headteacher on the reality TV contest.

"Richard Park is really annoying. He is playing this big head teacher role but as a teacher myself I know he wouldn't last five minutes in a classroom," he told BBC Choice's Liquid News.

  • The next edition of Fame Academy is tonight on BBC One at 7pm. This week's vote takes place tomorrow (Friday)
